چکیده

putative calcium channel specific to sperm tails may be the best target yet for a male contraceptive. The protein, dubbed CatSper, was discovered in a homology search by David Clapham and colleagues of Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA. CatSper looks like a calcium channel, although Clapham could not detect a calcium current in transfected cells, probably because another component of the channel is missing. CatSper is, however, required for a calcium influx into sperm that is triggered by cyclic nucleotides. Such signaling events may be part of the process by which sperm either gain their initial motility in the epididymis, or augment that motility (in a process called hyperactivation) A

P-25: Effect of Water with Different Temperature with or without Forced Swimming on Sperm Parameters in Adult Mouse

Background: Sports, hypothermia and hyperthermia as some stressors inhibit male reproductive functions and are associated with subfertility or infertility. We investigated whether water temperature and chronic swimming are effective on mouse sperm parameters. Materials and Methods: Adult male mouse(N=35) were randomly divided into 7 groups: 1-controls 2-cold water (100C) with swimming 3- cold w...

P-40: Melatonin Could Improve The Sperm Quality, Level of Antioxidant Enzymes and Lipid Peroxidation of Testis after The Combination of Swimming Exercise and Supraphysiological Dose of Nandrolone Decanoate in Rats

Background: This study investigates the effects of melatonin on the sperm quality, the level of antioxidant enzymes (TAC) and malondialdehyde (MDA) after the combination of swimming exercise and nandrolone decanoate (DECA). Materials and Methods: Two groups of male Wistar rats were treated for eight weeks as follows; group A consist of: CO (control), Sham, N (DECA), S (swimming) and NS (DECA pl...

Analysis of sperm motility using optical tweezers.

This study examines the use of optical trapping as a quantitative measure of sperm motility. The effects of laser trap duration and laser trapping power on sperm motility are described between sperm swimming force, swimmimg speed, and speed of progression (SOP) score. Sperm (SOP scores of 2-4) were trapped by a continuous-wave 1064 nm single-point gradient laser trap. Trap duration effects were...

Effect of red light on optically trapped spermatozoa.

Successful artificial insemination relies on the use of high quality spermatozoa. One measure of sperm quality is swimming force. Increased swimming force has been correlated with higher sperm swimming speeds and improved reproductive success. It is hypothesized that by increasing sperm swimming speed, one can increase swimming force. Previous studies have shown that red light irradiation cause...

Implications of diversity in sperm size and function for sperm competition and fertility.

Sperm competition is now recognised as a potent selective force shaping many male reproductive traits. While the influence of sperm competition on sperm number is widely accepted, its effects upon sperm size remain controversial. It had been traditionally assumed that there is a trade-off between sperm number and sperm size, so that an increase in sperm number would result in a decrease in sper...

Autonomous changes in the swimming direction of sperm in the gastropod Strombus luhuanus.

The sperm of the gastropod Strombus luhuanus show dimorphism. The eusperm have a nucleus and fertilize the egg, whereas the other type of sperm, parasperm, are anucleate and are thought to assist fertilization. Here we report the autonomous changes in the swimming pattern of S. luhuanus eusperm. In artificial seawater, the eusperm collected from S. luhuanus sperm ducts formed sperm bundles and ...
